About Mrs. Barrett

Hello, my name is Cynthia Barrett, and I am going on my fifth  year of teaching. This is my second year teaching second grade; however, I have previously taught Kindergarten and fourth grade. Prior to that, I taught a mild/moderate extended school year class for students in kindergarten, first, and second grade. In addition, I was a long-term substitute teacher in a kindergarten class at Gauldin Elementary in Downey, California. I also spent five years volunteering in a first- grade classroom. As you can see, my heart has always been in education. I love my job! Even in a middle of a pandemic, I do not see myself anywhere else.

I was born in Guayaquil, Ecuador. I came to the United States when I was eleven without knowing the English Language. As a student, I went through many trials while learning to speak English, but I overcame all those obstacles thanks to the support of inspiring teachers along the way. The passion, love and dedication of these educators inspired me to pursue a degree in Liberal Studies and earn a California Multiple Subject teaching credential with an added Spanish Bilingual Authorization.

Outside of the classroom, I enjoy spending time with my family, my sweet kitty cats, Blaze and Luna. I also enjoy salsa dancing, reading and journaling. Last, LOVE to spend time with my friends! I feel blessed to have some of my closest friends as my colleagues.

I am looking forward to an amazing year together!
